Program Description:
Sustainable development, climate change adaptation, and the survival of life itself all depend on one thing – water. Spend a semester exploring the national parks and communities of Kenya while studying Earth’s most important resource. Learn how issues of water quality and access are affecting Kenya’s wildlife and people, and discover the causes of these threats, which range from poorly planned, rapid development to global climate change. Get up close and personal with the country’s endemic wildlife, including lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, and monkeys, and study Kenya’s robust global tourism industry. Meet the nomadic Maasai people and learn about their struggles to balance ecosystem conservation with their traditional lifestyles and a growing need for natural resources. Wrap up your semester by heading into the field and collecting data for your own research project on issues of ecology, resource management, and socioeconomic development in Kenya.
