DIS is a non-profit study abroad foundation established in Denmark in 1959, with locations in Copenhagen and Stockholm. DIS provides semester, academic year, and summer programs taught in English, and offers high-impact learning experiences for upper-division undergraduate students from distinguished North American colleges and universities. Students studying at DIS in the summer can choose between three, four, or seven-week sessions, or combine sessions to stay from six to ten weeks. Students can enroll in one session in either Copenhagen or Stockholm, or create a complementary summer package by adding additional sessions in Copenhagen, Stockholm, or both. The intellectually challenging curriculum is broad, cutting edge, and enriched by experiential learning components, including field studies throughout the city, or faculty-led study tours across Europe in select sessions. Courses earn students 3-4 credits (Architecture & Design courses in session 4 earn students 7-9 credits).
Summer study abroad programs, like those during the semester, are demanding and of high academic quality. You are expected to prepare for and attend classes, hand in assignments, and take responsibility for your own learning. Do not expect to work more than at home, but expect to work more than you might anticipate from a summer abroad program. Most DIS courses are taught by permanent, part-time Danish or Swedish faculty who hold full-time positions in academia, government, business and other professions. The DIS student body is a diverse group of bright, high achieving third and fourth year students from ranking American universities and colleges, making the classroom and study tours a highly inspirational academic and social setting.
